Alpha Epsilon Xi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the
International Honor Society in Education began life as KAM I with a
focus on the research of Albert Bandura, John Dewey and K. Patricia
Cross. It was through the theory of Educational Learning by Dewey,
Social Learning by Bandura and Adult Learning by Cross that I was able
to develop a theme of professional development and recognition need for
educators in all content areas, at all levels, and throughout the
world. It became my mission and understanding that to continue to
provide positive social change in education, we as educators must have
a place and a cohort in which to continue to be supported to thrive
while developing changes for the future of education. As a result, the
search for the best application of this KAM research became something
that I wanted to share with all of my colleagues in education whether
classmates and colleagues from Walden University were teaching at
Walden University or at other institutions of education after we
graduate.
This passion of mine has developed into a place where we all
can do the following: honor each other for our continued contribution
to education at any level and in any content area, support each other
while we are working on completing the programs in which we are
enrolled in, and by presenting findings of our research to give others
the impetus to understand that they, too, can contribute to the
improvement of education and positive social change using teaching and
learning as their vehicle of improvement of all types of education
throughout the world. And, this has been a tremendous honor to know that my dream to create, from
my KAM I research, a special place for all of you has become a reality
after 10 months of work with Dr. Daniel Salter, Dr. JoeAnn Hinrichs,
Vice President Victoria Reid, many more staff and faculty at Walden
University, and, in the last 5 months, all of our first officers. I
give you my dream, my support and my encouragement with which I know
each of you can make your own dreams for education, teaching, and
learning programs your own reality for the future educators and
students in your content areas.
With great respect for all you do in education, great passion and hope for what
I know you will do and with great honor for what you have done, I thank
each and every one of you.
Very truly yours,
Heidi Marie Magoon Connor, Founder and 1st President
